Kainga Aroha Takes on New Family Support Worker

Story courtesy of Kainga Aroha

MelsKainga Aroha Community House is very pleased and proud to have Mels Fazakerley (pictured) as their new Family Support worker. Her position involves assisting individuals and families of any race with dealing with a wide range of issues. Kainga Aroha is grateful to the Southern Trust and Lottery Welfare for funding this position.

Mels also organises a successful after school Tuesday club for up to 20 school children to take part in crafts, games, cooking, having fun and sharing toys.

Mels, as a wife and mother who lives in Kihikihi, is well suited to this position, and also helps with the Kihikihi school breakfast programme, the Kainga Aroha school holiday camps and day trips and the day to day running of the community house.

Kainga Aroha now hopes some local men will come forward to help with the Tuesday Club and holiday camp to help as role models for the boys and as bunkroom leaders on the four days camps. Having the extra muscle for transporting canoes, stacking trailers, driving buses and lifting great vats of porridge for hungry campers would also be an advantage.

Mels and the staff at Kainga Aroha Community House would love to hear from anyone who could help. Please phone 871 6506 or visit www.teawamutu.net/ka.
