Kihikihi to Get Wastewater System

Waipa District Council is proposing to construct a wastewater (sewerage) system for the township of Kihikihi. This decision has been made due to the growing number of septic tank problems, as well as public health and environmental concerns.

Almost the entire village will be served by the proposed system, although some outlying properties will not have immediate connection.

Preliminary work has already begun on the project but construction is not expected to begin until 2005, with a completion date some time in 2006. The following table outlines the projected timetable:

Phase Timeframe
Design May 2003 - October 2004
Tenders Process March 2004 - January 2005
Construction January 2005 - April 2006
Commissioning February 2006 - July 2006

A liaison group has been set up consisting of residents, interest group representatives and business people. The group will help disperse information about the project to residents and identify any concerns, which will then be passed to the Project Management Team.
