SPACE Courses

No, wasn't a satellite control facility parked behind the Visitor Information Centre. It was Waikato Institute of Technology's "Artechmobile", a mobile computer classroom.

The Artechmobile

The Artechmobile was in town from 29th January until 5th February 2002, hosting free computer courses as part of the SPACE programme (Self-Paced Applied Computer Education).

Topics covered include internet, email and common Microsoft applications. There are five modules, each 10-12 hours long. Resource material is available, and students are encouraged to continue learning at home. They can even get ongoing telephone support.

Community Liaison Officer for the Institute Steve Searle says the response has been excellent, with near-capacity sessions.
