As part of the National Push Play Day, six new KiwiWalks were today announced for the Waipa District (three in Te Awamutu and three in Cambridge). KiwiWalks are a series of structured walks currently being introduced around New Zealand. Today's event included a guided tour of Te Awamutu's shortest KiwiWalk, spot prizes, and words from Mayor Alan Livingston. Jan Jeffers, Waipa District Sports Coordinator for Sports Waikato, explained that KiwiWalks are graded to suit a range of fitness levels. Whilst some are fairly challenging, others are quite sedate. Participants today included several people in mobility scooters and one ninety-year-old enthusiast.
