What's Wrong with this Picture?
A strange sight greeted Te Awamutu College pupils as they arrived for their Swimming Sports event yesterday. Rather than being cool blue, the pool resembled the set of a horror movie. An unknown substance had apparently been added to the pool, turning it bright scarlet. Whether the incident was a random practical joke or a drastic effort by pupils to avoid swimming competition is not known. In any event, the pool is off-limits until further notice. Water samples have been collected by Council environmental health staff and sent away for analysis. The pool cannot be drained until the offending substance can be identified, to ensure that no toxic substances are leaked into local waterways. College staff were philosophical about the incident. Principal Mr. Jim Bennett was unsure about the exact costs and timeframe of the cleanup operation, but felt confident that the Swimming Sports would still proceed.
