TC100608DT01 BY DEAN TAYLOR The occupant of a Walmsley Street home which caught fire on Friday night was admitted to Waikato Hospital after badly cutting his arm trying to find his brother. The man recalls waking to the house burning and running to a friend’s house to get help. When they asked about his brother, he ran back to the house with his friends following, and injured himself smashing the window of his brother’s bedroom. It was discovered the man they were concerned about was in Cambridge. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, but not before the rental home had suffered considerable damage. Fire investigators and police determined the fire had started in the lounge in the vicinity of a wood burner which had been lit earlier in the evening and were satisfied it was not suspicious. |
