TC180408DT01 By DEAN TAYLOR As part of refurbishments for Anzac Day, Waipa District Council has taken the opportunity to make further improvements at the War Memorial Park. Kingan Landscaping has replaced a section of 50-year-old concrete slab in front of the sunken cross - the area where returned servicemen march and congregate for the Dawn Parade on Anzac Day. The new paving provides a better surface, removing potential slip hazards and improving the appearance of the park. The work was completed in tandem with refurbishments of the Cenotaph on Anzac Green. Council is pleased with that result and looks forward to its use this Friday. They say the ready lawn was a challenge to establish in the dry weather, but was well worth the effort. The last stage is the installation of specialised stone for the base of the monument, which has yet to arrive. Council says Anzac Day celebrations will not be affected if it does not arrive in time. Council also installed an outdoor power supply adjacent to the cenotaph to power a PA system for Anzac Day commemorations and other services held at the monument. |
