Car bolting away from police brings down power lines |

![]() SCENE of Monday afternoon’s crash in Thompson Road which brought down power lines. 285061AD A man in his early 20s, who absconded from a car which crashed into a power pole on Thompson Road as he was trying to evade police, was later apprehended. He was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, receiving stolen property and served with several vehicle compliance related infringement notices. Police had tried to stop the vehicle on State Highway 3 between Te Awamutu and Ohaupo on Monday afternoon when the driver sped away. After turning into Thompson Road he lost control of the vehicle on the no-exit road and crashed into the power pole, bringing down lines. The driver absconded from the scene shortly before police arrived. An eye witness said the car came screaming over the hill, lost traction in the metal when trying to negotiate the loop at the end of the road narrowly missing two ‘school ag day calves’. |
