Yesterday Waipa Mayor Alan Livingston and chief executive John Inglis officially kicked off physical works on the $12.6 million project. When complete, 700 Kihikihi properties will be connected to the Te Awamutu treatment plant. Mr Livingston said contractors will start digging and laying pipes in the Herbert/Moule Street area this week, and would slowly work their way around the township. “To date, everything is going as planned and we’re happy with progress,” he said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather as rain can play havoc with the work programme.” An open day for Kihikihi residents is planned for Thursday, August 11 at the Kihikihi Hall. It follows on from successful open days held last year and will provide an opportunity for residents to discuss the project with Council staff and contractors. |
